Different Things to Different People?
Different causes affect us all differently.
Regardless of what cause or charity we choose to support, every little helps. For me personally, it’s the charities listed below. Each with a different purpose, but ultimately sharing the same goal: humanity. Maybe one of these charities inspires you too?
CHOOSE LOVE
Can you imagine waking up one day and having everything taken away from you, through no fault of your own?
Refugees – with more than half being children – are people who have been forced to flee their home country because of war and violence. And guess what? Politicians and companies are profiting from this.
Choose Love is the first shop in the world where you can buy real items for refugees, and this charity ensures that 89% of your donations goes straight to the frontline.
Borders shouldn’t divide humanity.
REFUGE
I had the honour of volunteering with Refuge and it forever changed me. The charity works so so so hard to ensure women are believed, and to know abuse is not their fault. Each survivor (not victim) has access to specialist services to help them access safety and rebuild their lives.
Donating to this charity will help women and children facing abuse – whether that be physical, psychological, financial, emotional, or sexual.
This charity continues to inspire me.
SHARE THE MEAL
Can you believe the rate of hunger is increasing? This actually blows my mind.
There are 690 million people who do not get enough food to lead a healthy and active life, and as the world continues to see an increase in conflict, climate change, and economic instability, the rate of hunger is increasing fast.
ShareTheMeal continues to help provide aid to some of the largest food crises in the world including Yemen, Syria, and Nigeria.
Food and water are basic human survival needs.
KHALSA AID
Humanity above all. The founder, Ravi Singh, reinstalls my faith in humanity when most needed. A man who has dedicated his whole life to helping people – regardless of race, colour, or religion.
Khalsa Aid supports victims of natural and man-made disasters, such as floods, earthquakes, famine, and war, and has provided crucial aid to millions of people around the world. The team are on the front line to help distribute food, water, clothing, and medical and sanitation supplies.
Ravi Singh reminds me that integrity, truth, and justice truly matter.
PINK LADOO
A campaign close to my heart.
In a culture where mourning the birth of a daughter and celebrating the birth of a son had been normalised, the founder, Raj Kaur, spoke up (thank God!).
Initially, the campaign was created to inspire families to celebrate the birth of their daughters and start a much-needed conversation in homes, but over time it has become so much more.
Pink Ladoo has provided a space for women (and men) to share their stories. Raj Kaur is not here for the followers, social media likes, or awards, she is here to raise awareness on gender inequality, and speak up against all sexist customs and discrimination taking place within the South Asian community.
So, no donation request, just a humble request to support Pink Ladoo on all socials, as the founder Raj does not receive any proceeds or funds.
UNIQUE HOME
I was privileged enough to meet the selfless Bibi Prakash Kaur and hear her inspiring story. She told me, “From a young age, this is all I wanted to do because I, too, was abandoned”.
This woman has dedicated her whole life caring for abandoned newborn girls who were left to die in rubbish bins, gutters, and on roadsides.
Regardless of caste, creed, or religion, each girl is cared for, educated, and loved unconditionally. And even today, Unique Home has the cradle outside the house for parents to leave their unwanted daughters.
The girls may have been born into a toxic and patriarchal home, but at least girls are now being raised in a loving environment.
These girls deserve equality.
